I have often been asked if I use any guides for WoW. Short answer, yes, I have used several over the time I have been playing WoW (on retail as well as back in my private server days). I will give a list and brief description of each which I have used over the years, as well as my general thoughts around them. I will cover 3 types of guides here, Game Guide, Leveling Guide & Gold Guide.
A Game Guide is a general guide of how the game works, maps, beastairy, rewards, etc. A Leveling Guide is centered around helping you get your character(s) leveled to max level as fast as possible, with as little work as possible. A Gold Guide is designed to help you earn lots of gold in game. All of these guides come in 1 (or more) formats; these formats include (but not limited to) Printed, eBook, Website, Video and In-Game Addon. I prefer the In-Game Addon type, so I don’t have to constantly tab out of the game, or shuffle pages in a book, or print out.
Game Guides:
These guides are very useful if you are new to WoW. They have a lot of information which can be very helpful for new players, experienced players will probably not find these worth the cost.
BradyGames makes several good Game Guides for all 3 of the current WoW expansions. You can find there guides here.
Amazon also carries a wide variety of Game Guides for WoW, which can be found here.
Leveling Guides:
These types of guides are great for the new and veteran player. If you are leveling up your very first character or your 10th, these guides can help you find a faster path and route.
Zygor’s Guides are good. They have a Horde & an Alliance guide, for about $50 each. Each guide comes complete with an in-game addon and step by step instructions for leveling your character. Zygor also has several extra (not in-game) guides which are full of great information, such as a Netherwing Drake Rep Guide.
Dugi’s Guides make use of a free in-game addon (TourGuide), which provides a small footprint, on your screen as well as system resources. Dugi also has a bunch of other guides which work in-game quite well, such as the Dailies & Events Guide.
TourGuide is great for being free! It works very well, but every now and again you will find where it does not have you complete quests, which it told you to pick up, or it seems to jump around a little bit too much. But with that in mind, it is 100% free.
I have used all of the above guides, and they are all great at what they do. I recommend all of them. I currently use Dugi’s Guides, since he has the daily guides, and I liek the smaller footprint his guides provide. There are others, but I have not used them. I recommend you research any guides you are thinking about purchasing and trying out the demos before you put down the money for it.
Gold Guides:
Massive Gold Blueprint (MGB): What I love about this guide is the that he presents them in several formats, Video, eBook & MP3. He also updates frequently and adds new videos often. Another good feature (which I have had trouble finding in other guides) is he will walk you through his configuration of the addons, such as Auctioneer.
Dugi’s Guides also has a pretty good Gold Guide.
WoW Gold Guides Exposed has a comparison of 3 of the major Gold Guides out there. He has some decent info on each and a brief video showing the features of each one as well. While kind of hard to find, he also has a Honorable Mention for MGB. This site is worth checking out, as well as his YouTube Channel.
